Wizz Air boosts Airbus
An order for 146 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft from Wizz Air gave Airbus cause for celebration at the Dubai Air Show.
The deal is for 72 A320neos and 74 A321neos and is worth more than US$17.2bn at current list prices.
Deliveries are expected to start in 2022, with the bulk of the aircraft scheduled in 2025 and 2026, following the delivery of 110 Airbus A321neos ordered by Wizz Air in 2015.
Wizz Air CEO József Váradi said Airbus had delivered the best overall mix of aircraft, cost efficiency, support and price and the airline was convinced the A320neo and A321neo would be game-changers as Wizz Air continued to expand across and beyond Europe.
“Wizz Air will continue to stimulate demand for air travel by offering the lowest fares while still delivering a great customer experience on board one of the youngest fleets in Europe.”
The new order would bring Wizz Air’s outstanding orders with Airbus to 282 aircraft, including also eight A320ceos and 18 A321ceos, deliveries of which will continue to early 2019, and 110 Airbus A321neos, deliveries of which are planned to start in 2019 and continue through to the end of 2024.
