Southend’s seasonal celebration

A checklist of 13 new destinations for passengers to travel to has been issued by Southend Airport as it celebrates a busy season ahead.

The list includes Budapest, Groningen, Milan, Prague and Vienna, plus Caen, Lyon and Rennes in France and new flights to Dubrovnik and Zadar.

The airport, which is also welcoming a new boutique hotel to Southend, is also offering flights to cities closer to home such as Dublin, Glasgow and Manchester, with the majority of the new flights being provided by Flybe and easyJet.

Introduction of the Dublin service, operated by Stobart Air up to three times a day, is particularly significant as it has enabled the airport to launch a programme of connecting flights to North American cities via the Irish hub (BTN 30 October).

The programme links the Southend service to destinations served by Aer Lingus including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington, with US pre-clearance at Dublin.

Meanwhile, the town of Southend is preparing to welcome its first luxury boutique hotel next month, convenient for the airport and overlooking the seafront and pier.

The £4m Seven Hotel is a four-storey, 37-bedroom property on Clifton Terrace. The room count includes five luxury suites, each with living and bedroom area, wet room with rain shower, sliding French windows and a terrace.
