MeliĆ” opens at Iguazu

Spanish hospitality group Meliá Hotels International has opened the Meliá Iguazu, the only hotel located in the heart of Iguazu National Park in Argentina, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Meliá, which last month took over management of the property, formerly a Sheraton, is planning a major renovation next year showcasing the hotel’s 169 rooms, dining options, two swimming pools, a spa, a gym and meeting and event rooms.

The company says the property will also support the delicate ecosystem of the national park with a specialised visitors centre to educate visitors on the environment of the Iguazu and help to protect it for future generations.

Meliá CEO Gabriel Escarrer Jaume said the rebranding of the hotel was part of plans to strengthen the company’s presence in Argentina following its operation of two properties, the Meliá Recoleta Plaza and Meliá Buenos Aires, in the capital.

He added: “We are very pleased to be able to bring our Spanish hospitality to one of the most beautiful corners of the planet, and to form part of the experience of travellers, to whom we are committed to offering the highest standards of our brand.”
