A new base at Bordeaux is to be opened by easyJet for next summer, following a similar move at Palma de Mallorca last March. Like Palma, Bordeaux will have three aircraft, Airbus A320s, stationed there.
The airline, which has also recently announced impending expansion at Belfast and Liverpool airports, says the increased capacity provided by the new aircraft is expected to help it to pass the 2m-passengers-a-year mark from Bordeaux in 2018.
The French city becomes the carrier’s sixth base in France after Orly and CDG airports in Paris plus Lyon, Toulouse and Nice. Flights began in 2006 with services from Luton, followed a year later by Bristol.
EasyJet country manager for France Francois Bacchetta said: “We are excited to open a new base in Bordeaux and to reinforce our commitment in the French regions where, for more than 20 years, we have seen an increasing demand and need for short-haul connections.
“This new base represents an important milestone in our operations, accelerating our growth and providing customers even better connectivity. We aim to increase passengers by 20% which means two million passengers per year, consolidating our position of being the second largest airline in both France and in Bordeaux.”
