Air China's tech link

A new route that connects southern California's Silicon Beach to China's own Silicon Valley is being launched by Star Alliance member Air China on 7 December to complement its three daily flights between Los Angeles and Beijing.

The three-times-weekly nonstop service between Los Angeles and Shenzhen will be operated by the airline's newest Dreamliner, the Boeing B787-9, and will be the first direct link between Los Angeles and China's self-proclaimed City of the Future.

Air China vice-president and general manager Zhihang Chi said: “With China as Los Angeles' top trading partner, we are committed to growing and strengthening the economic and cultural ties between the two.

“This new service brings together two of the world's leading technology and innovation hubs at a time when the connectivity between these two cities was never more needed than it is now.

“China's homegrown tech companies with headquarters in Shenzhen, only 19 miles from Hong Kong, are expanding their presence and direct investments in the US and  this new service offers more options for passengers at both ends of the route.”

Air China’s newest Dreamliner features 30 seats in Capital Pavilion, the name given to the carrier’s Business Class, plus 34 in Premium Economy and 229 in Economy.
