Sweet dreams on American

A “best-in-class sleep experience” was unveiled by American Airlines on Thursday as part of a programme of inflight enhancements for long-haul international and transcontinental First Class, Business class and Premium Economy passengers.

From December, American is partnering with specialist supplier Casper to offer products including mattress pads, duvets, pillows, day blankets, lumbar pillows, pyjamas and slippers, with the exact package varying based on the route.

The airline said Casper studied the travel environment for months to understand the challenges of in-flight sleep. The company’s engineers then went to work to design products specifically for air travel and made exclusively for American.

The airline tested the designs with passengers on long flights, including Los Angeles – Auckland, and also asked some of its most frequent travellers, its flight attendants, for advice on fit, durability and comfort.

Senior vice-president for marketing, loyalty and sales Kurt Stache said: “Customers and crew members who tried Casper on our flights said they loved it.

“Casper has set a new standard for premium sleep products and our new line showcases their attention to detail and design, and their commitment to providing the best rest possible for American Airlines customers.”
