ANA's domestic drive

A new lounge for domestic flights at Sapporo (New Chitose) airport is being opened next week by ANA, Japan’s largest airline, with design by Kengo Kuma, one of the top Japanese architects.

Opening of the so-called ANA Suite Lounge marks the first domestic installation of its kind at the airport. The airline currently operates similar facilities at Tokyo Haneda, Osaka Itami and Okinawa Naha airports.

ANA is also upgrading domestic inflight services with an enhanced meal service and this autumn will provide lunch in Premium Class over a longer period. The number of free entertainment programmes on the domestic inflight wi-fi service has also been increased.

In another new development this month, ANA has begun offering a top Japanese sake from Japan’s renowned Ichinokura brewery on international flights in Economy, in addition to the existing sake service in First, Business and Premium Economy.

Vice-president of products and services Yuzo Hara explained: “We wanted to offer more passengers an opportunity to enjoy the rich flavours of this sake, while also contributing to the promotion of Japan’s culture overseas and domestically.

“International visitor numbers are increasing, and this trend is expected to continue, as Japan hosts international events such as the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.”
