Hilton's big plans for UK

Plans to open up to 30 new hotels in the UK over the next two years have been revealed by Hilton Hotels and Resorts in a move that would increase its presence by some 25%.

It follows a strong performance by the group, which it attributes to the fall in the value of the pound, and is aimed at making Britain the second largest market for Hilton outside the US.

The hotel chain, which is majority owned by the US private equity firm Blackstone, is said to be planning to open new properties in London as well as other cities, including Leeds and York.

The group’s most recent opening in the UK, where it currently has 138 properties, was at Stansted Airport, while there has also been the debut in Britain of the Curio Collection brand at the refurbished Trafalgar St James at Trafalgar Square in London.

Another Curio Collection hotel is destined for Lincoln Square in Canary Wharf in London’s Docklands with a scheduled opening next March, while regional plans include a Hilton Garden Inn at Old Trafford in Manchester later this year.
