The fast pace of growth and expansion at Qatar Airways looks set to continue into next year with the airline last week announcing the launch of service to Canberra, its fifth Australian destination, from February.
The Australian capital joins a list of of 26 new destinations already announced for 2017/2018 and follows what Qatar calls a year of success with the launch of a new Business Class, good financial results and a major sponsorship deal with FIFA.
The airline said in a statement: “At a time when many other global airlines are standing still, Qatar Airways has continued to elevate industry expectations, innovate the consumer experience and expand its global network.
“The recent GCC blockade has had little impact on the national carrier of the state of Qatar thanks to a robust growth strategy, varied investment portfolio and its consistent award-winning customer experience.”
Group chief executive Akbar Al Baker added: “We are delighted to finally bring our award-winning service to Canberra in 2018, our ninth year of operation in Australia. It is another proud moment for us and another milestone in our expansion plans.”
