More than 2,000 extra seats are being added by Icelandair during November and December to its Glasgow – Kevlavik service because of demand from passengers heading to and from North America.
The airline is adding 39 seats per leg, from 183 to 222, on four flights a week of the daily schedule for passengers transiting to Icelandair’s 18 North America gateways including New York JFK and Newark, Chicago, Boston, Seattle and Washington DC.
The increased capacity will be complemented by an extra flight to New York Newark from Keflavik between 15 November and 11 January, taking the Newark route to a daily. The Glasgow flights, plus six more from UK gateways, will connect with this service.
Icelandair is also offering transatlantic passengers stopovers of up to seven nights in Iceland at no additional airfare. UK passengers save money on APD if they opt to stopover on their outbound journeys.
Glasgow Airport head of airline marketing and development Steven Marshall said: “Icelandair is one of our longest serving airlines and we are delighted they have seen the potential for increased demand between Glasgow and North America this winter.”
