Hong Kong names the day

A starting date of 18 December has been confirmed by Hong Kong Airlines for new direct flights between Hong Kong and Los Angeles in a further expansion of the carrier’s network in North America. The route will be served by Airbus A350 aircraft.

The company announced last month it was planning a US mainland market debut “towards the end of this year” using its incoming fleet of Airbus A350-900s, the first of which is due this month (BTN 17 July).

A daily Los Angeles service forms part of Hong Kong Airlines’ plan to widen its intercontinental network as a result of acquiring at least 12 A350s plus 11 A330-200s and nine A330-300s.

The carrier began flights to Vancouver laast month and HKA says it is now also looking at launching flights to London, San Francisco, Melbourne, Sydney, Milan, Chicago and Christchurch, New Zealand “within the next year or so”.

Chief commercial officer Li Dianchun said: “The launch of Los Angeles will strengthen the connection with our well-developed Asia Pacific network, providing more options for our passengers, and will also serve to promote our brand image and passion for service to more of the world.”
