Boeing has been given further impetus for its UK growth plans after council planning officers on Friday approved a multi-million pound plan for its first manufacturing plant in Britain at Sheffield Business Park.
The manufacturing and research plant will produce actuation systems for commercial aircraft, specifically the Next-Generation B737, B737 MAX and B777, employ more than 30 people when it opens late next year and provide significant new supply chain opportunities.
Sheffield City Council cabinet member for business and investment Mazher Iqbal said: “We’re delighted Boeing has chosen Sheffield as the location for its first factory in Europe, a decision that is testament to the great skills and research capability in the region. This is a tremendous opportunity for local companies and job creation.”
Senior operations manager for Boeing Sheffield James Needham said the company was pleased the council had approved the planning application for Boeing Sheffield.
The new plant will be next to the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, co-founded with Boeing over a decade ago, in the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District in South Yorkshire. Three research buildings are in the process of being completed in the western corner of the site.
