Passengers parking their cars at Gatwick have been advised by officials to use only airport-approved operators after a non-approved company failed to return vehicles to more than 100 customers.
Gatwick First Parking, a meet-and-greet operator with no connection to the airport, reportedly ceased trading with no prior warning, leaving vehicles abandoned and their rightful owners unable to retrieve them.
The new guidance recommends the use of either official on-airport parking or companies registered with Gatwick’s Approved Operators Scheme, run in partnership with the British Parking Association.
It was introduced to offer Gatwick passengers more confidence when choosing off-airport parking, and only features suppliers that have adhered to the approval processes of Trading Standards’ Buy with Confidence programme.
The advice was backed up last week by operator I Love Meet and Greet, a founder member of the scheme. The company issued a special three-step plan for travellers wanting to avoid a repeat of last week’s situation, with managing director Sarah Anglim saying: “These disasters can be easily avoided.
“Our three-step plan is quick and easy and gives anyone purchasing airport parking the opportunity to make an informed choice.”
