Gulfstream scores 550

Just 14 years after the twinjet entered service, the Gulfstream G550 has passed another milestone with the 550th model delivered by Gulfstream Aerospace. The G550 is a derivative of the GV, but with more range and upgraded avionics.

Gulfstream president Mark Burns said: “This delivery affirms the continued demand for the G550 with a range and payload that have earned it a lasting reputation as a versatile aircraft for business aviation and an ideal platform for special missions.”

Powered by two Rolls-Royce BR710 C4-11 engines, the G550 has the longest range in its class, carrying up to 19 passengers or eight passengers and four crew 12,501km (6,750nm) nonstop from New York – Dubai at Mach 0.80, or London – Los Angeles at Mach 0.85.

The aircraft has amassed more than 50 city-pair speed records during its more than 10 years in service, including London – Tokyo in just over 11hr and Beijing – New York in just under 14.

The G550 was the first to feature the PlaneView flight deck, which Gulfstream says with the aircraft’s technological and safety advances has quickly become the new ideal in business aviation.
