Emirates expands wi-fi offer

Free inflight wi-fi services on Emirates have been expanded by the airline in response to a growth in popularity, with all Skywards Platinum and Gold members now eligible for free unlimited access regardless of class of travel.

This also applies to all Emirates Skywards members travelling in First and Business Class, while Economy Class customers and non-Skywards members can access  20MB of free data usage within the first two hours of log-in, double the current level.

Additional data can be purchased in 150MB or 500MB blocks at special rates, with tiered discounts for Skywards Silver and Blue members. Prices range from $4.99 for an additional 150MB or $7.99 for an additional 500MB, depending on class of travel.

Emirates vice-president and chief operations officer Adel Al Redha said: “Emirates has made significant investments in our inflight connectivity with wi-fi services today available on more than 200 of our aircraft

“It is a service Emirates continues to subsidise heavily as inflight wi-fi usage has grown tremendously. Our new plans reflect our commitment to continue providing this as a free service for as many customers as possible.”

Doubling free data to 20MB would suit light wi-fi users, while business travellers could buy extra data as needed, he added.
