A new member of the Shangri-La International Hotel Management group has opened in the Chinese capital in the shape of the 450-room Hotel Jen Beijing. It is the group’s 98th hotel globally and second Hotel Jen branded property in mainland China.
In the centre of Beijing’s central business district, the property features a hi-tech hub where guests can work, the only gastropub with its own brewery in the Guomao area and a world-class gym.
Artwork is prominent throughout the hotel, from a centrepiece tree sculpture and suspended porcelain leaves in the lobby to copper beer vats laser-cut with Chinese zodiac signs in the gastropub.
General manager Clifford Weiner said: “We want to create a new hospitality experience where this hotel will be a modern-day playground for business as well as leisure travellers and local residents of Beijing.
The idea is to inspire our guests to leave everyday routines behind them by providing them with alternative, energising ways to work smarter, play harder and travel better.”
The 450 contemporary rooms and suites start at 40sq m and have modern work spaces with multiple USB charging bays and free wi-fi. All rooms have views of the city, with some 140 of them overlooking the Rem Koolhaas-designed CCTV building.
