Major improvements to passenger facilities are on the way at Durham Tees Valley Airport under the first phase of an investment programme due to be completed by the end of September involving extensive remodelling of the departure lounge.
It involves providing free unlimited wi-fi, together with designated work stations and charging points, and improved retail services under a new “Xpress” brand. A second phase starting this autumn, will see further improvements.
These include the return of tax-free shopping and a major upgrade of the business lounge area. Also in view is a revamp of the airport’s Privilege membership club with exclusive discounts and offers for travellers.
Airport chairman Robert Hough said: “The improvements are another stage in our continuing investment and the overall developments being implemented through the Masterplan, including, for example, the drive to attract more general aviation.
“The programme, which in part has been supported through the Passenger Facility Fee, is all aimed at enhancing a low-hassle, comfortable and business-friendly environment for passengers while they are with us.”
Hough said another key element was customer service, to which end the airport was also developing its staff training facilities through a World Host Accreditation training programme.
