Mandarin Oriental for Chile

Signalling its first property in South America, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has signed a management contract to manage and ultimately brand a 310-room operating hotel in the Chilean capital Santiago.

The group will take over management from August, rename the property Hotel Santiago and then begin an extensive renovation. The first stage is scheduled to be complete in August next year, when the hotel will be rebranded Mandarin Oriental, Santiago.

The hotel is in the middle of the important Las Condes commerce and leisure district, which is also home to two luxury shopping malls, restaurants, museums and theatres, and near the exclusive residential neighbourhood of Vitacura.

The room count includes 23 suites with views of the city and the Andes, and 25,000sq m of grounds with free-form outdoor pool and landscaped gardens. There are also five restaurants and bars, plus extensive banqueting and meeting space.

The hotel will continue to operate through the first phase of the renovation, which will include new luxury accommodation, public areas and landscaping designed to reflect local culture, with features inspired by Mandarin Oriental’s Asian heritage.
