TAP fares innovation

Fares based on the amount of baggage passengers choose to accompany them are being introduced by TAP Portugal in a move it says is designed to give its customers more freedom of choice when buying tickets for intercontinental flights.

The airline says the “branded fares” scheme provides a more tailored and convenient experience, with passengers to Brazil, Africa, Venezuela, Canada and the US on TAP-operated flights able to choose and pay only for the services required.

There are four fare brand options available for travel in Economy Class and two in Business Class and additional services can be bought at any time.

The new Discount brand is for passengers who choose to travel only with carry-on baggage at the most competitive price. Basic brand is for those with one checked bag, while those who travel with two and want to pre-assign a seat can choose Classic brand.

TAP says in Business Class, the Executive brand offers attractive pricing and two pieces of baggage up to 32kg each, while still providing amenities such as lounge access and priority boarding. The Top Executive brand allows flexibility plus three pieces of baggage up to 32kg each.

Bookings are now available for travel from 1 September.
