Garden Inn moves into Shanghai

Western hotel groups are continuing their march on the Chinese market with the Hilton Garden Inn brand making its debut in Shanghai. The parent company already operates four other properties in the city.

The new Hilton Garden Inn Shanghai Hongqiao joins the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund, Hilton Shanghai, Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao, and DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Shanghai-Pudong in the portfolio.

Regional senior vice president operations Bruce McKenzie said the addition of the Hilton Garden Inn, the 12th example of the brand in China, enabled the company to address growing demand in Shanghai’s mid-market segment.

The hotel is in Qingpu, part of the New Hongqiao Central Business District and within 10km of Hongqiao’s international airport and Hongqiao rail station.

It is also close to the Hongqiao Integrated transportation hub, the National Exhibition and Convention Centre (Shanghai) and Shanghai Yintao Golf Club, as well as popular dining and shopping destinations such as Bailian Outlet Plaza Qingpu and the Hub.

Meeting facilities include the Yuan Yi ballroom, which can accommodate up to 1,000 people, six flexible function rooms and a boardroom, each with wi-fi access and audio-visual equipment.
