Lufthansa-Astana link-up

A new codeshare deal between Lufthansa and Kazakhstan’s national carrier Air Astana has seen a shake-up at Frankfurt Airport with the carrier moving to Terminal 1 for ease of connectivity with its new partner.

The codeshare agreement, which took effect yesterday (Sunday), is valid on Air Astana’s flights between Astana and Frankfurt and Lufthansa’s flights from Frankfurt to Almaty and Astana.

Passengers can now choose from a combined total of 14 flights a week between Kazakhstan and Germany instead of the seven available previously, which Air Astana said was a particularly convenient development for connecting passengers.

President and CEO Peter Foster said: “I’m delighted the longstanding co-operative relationship between Air Astana and Lufthansa is being further strengthened with the signing of the codeshare agreement.

“Passengers flying from Almaty and Astana to Frankfurt can now enjoy a greater choice of flights to suit their schedules best and the convenience of simply using the ticket of either of the two airlines.”

Lufthansa regional sales director Axel Hilgers added: “Kazakhstan is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and we highly welcome Air Astana as our new partner, and as the leading airline to and from central Asia."
