Etihad link-up with Egyptair

Two key intercontinental hub carriers have joined forces with Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways and Egyptair launching a new codeshare partnership being introduced in phases with effect from last Wednesday 1 March.

Under the initial phase, Etihad will place its EY code on Egyptair operated flights between Abu Dhabi and Cairo, while Egyptair will place its MS code on Etihad flights between the two capitals.

During the second phase, Etihad will gain access to major cities across Africa on flights operated by Egyptair via the Cairo hub, while Egyptair will be able to access key routes to Australia and the Far East served by Etihad from Abu Dhabi. The third phase will see the EY code put on domestic flights across Egypt.

Members of the loyalty programmes Etihad Guest and Egyptair Plus will be able to earn miles on the codeshare flights at a later stage, with a view to expanding the partnership to include additional destinations on both airlines’ networks.

Etihad CEO Peter Baumgartner said: “This agreement reinforces our commitment to a partnership strategy with airlines that gives guests more travel options to destinations worldwide, in this case opportunities between the UAE and Africa.”
