CityJet in London reshuffle

Changes to the CityJet operating structure affecting its presence at London City Airport (LCY) were announced by the airline last week ahead of it taking delivery of seven new aircraft in the first half of this year and up to 10 more from June.

CityJet said that the changes were a result of its continuing move towards repositioning the business towards a stronger mix of high quality scheduled services into LCY and developing its growing portfolio of airlines for which it provides wet-lease aircraft and crew.

The airline has grown its fleet from 17 aircraft in 2015 to 44 this year and more than doubled its employees to over 1,100. All the new aircraft to the fleet will operate on behalf of wet-lease customers, crewed by CityJet staff.

CityJet acquired a new crew base in Copenhagen in January when it purchased Cimber Airways from SAS and will also open a new Brussels crew base at the end of this month.

The airline has already confirmed it is dropping London City – Paris Orly and Nantes from this month and adjusting Amsterdam – London City services to four a day but will build frequency on the flagship Dublin – London City route. Pat Byrne, CityJet founder and executive chairman,  said the airline remained “fully committed” to London City.
