A new hotel brand is on the way to the Czech Republic with W Hotels Worldwide, part of the Starwood Hotels division of Marriott International, announcing it will open W Prague in 2020 on Wenceslas Square in the heart of the capital.
The property will be a renovation of the former Grand Europa Hotel, a radical art nouveau style property that pushed boundaries when it opened in 1905, combined with a new building to create a blend of old world and contemporary design.
Marriott vice-president Western Europe for luxury brands Sandeep Walia said: “As one of Europe’s most exciting and diverse destinations, Prague is a perfect fit for the iconic W brand and is certain to push new limits for Prague’s vibrant hotel scene.”
Restored historical elements of the former Grand Hotel Europa will set the stage for W’s design, complemented by new oval-shaped extension. The two buildings will be fully connected to create 154 rooms and suites.
The Prague announcement follows the launch of W hotels in London, Paris, Barcelona, St Petersburg, Verbier, Istanbul and, most recently, Amsterdam, the seventh in Europe. The brand will debut in Scotland in 2021.
