Custom House DLR station closed

It is going to be a rush to get it open for World Travel Market, but Custom House for ExCeL on the Beckton extension of the DLR has been closed for Crossrail readying.

Officially the one-time North London Line station is not due to reopen until December but with the exhibition centre’s major event, World Travel Market, set for 6-8 November, there is pressure, and a bonus, for the work to be completed early.

If it is not ready in time, visitors and exhibitors will be faced with a decision whether to get off the DLR at Royal Victoria, or stay on until Prince Regent.

Royal Victoria is 0.4 mile or a nine-minute walk, according to Google, from the western gateway to ExCel. Prince Regent leads into the London International Convention Centre (ICC) at the eastern end of ExCeL and seamlessly through to the main concourse.

The good news is that when Crossrail (and now officially the Elizabeth Line) opens from Heathrow to Abbey Wood in December 2018, travel from the airport to Custom House will take a mere 43min direct on state-of-the-art trains. No doubt there will again be pressure to open the line in time for WTM.
