Virgin first with US precheck

A faster and easier method called TSA Precheck for passengers departing US airports to move through security screening has been adopted by Virgin Atlantic, the first UK airline to do so. The system was introduced by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Virgin says passengers enrolled in the system can spend less than five minutes when travelling through qualifying US airports, including New York JFK, with no need to remove shoes, light jackets, or belts. Laptops and compliant liquids can remain in hand luggage.

Executive vice-president Mark Anderson said: “We’re thrilled to be the first UK airline to offer our customers the ability to expedite their security screening process in the US using TSA Precheck.

“We’re always looking for ways to make our customers’ journeys more enjoyable, and that’s why we’re partnering with the TSA on flights from the US to the UK so they have a stress-free journey.”

With US security at an all-time high, passengers wishing to use the system must pre-qualify, usually in the case of UK citizens by registering for the Global Entry scheme. Details are available via the TSA website or from Virgin Atlantic.
