Citing “positive support” from business passengers, Flybe last week said it was continuing its service between Cardiff to London City Airport as part of its extensive summer 2017 schedule that starts on 26 March.
The service was introduced on 12 September last to provide an alternative way to get to London during the closure of the Severn Tunnel for repairs. With the tunnel reopening, Great Western Railway put on extra train services to London, leading to speculation over the future of the air link.
Flybe chief revenue officer Vincent Hodder said last week: “With up to two flights a day, operating seven days a week, and an average flight time of 1hr, passengers are increasingly taking advantage of this fast, convenient option to the heart of London.
“It is good news for the route that is receiving such positive support from the business community. We look forward to seeing demand continuing to grow, to allow it to become established on our Cardiff schedule.”
Cardiff Airport boss Debra Barber added: “This important service has seen many Welsh business professionals making the journey to London for the day – it’s proving to be a real time saver and an exciting prospect for companies who want to do business in Wales.”
