London City Moves West

Whilst still not completely finished, the west wing of London City Airport, Gates 2-15, has opened its new lounge areas and refreshment stations on the same level as the main waiting area airside. Beneath the wing, the gates themselves are currently being refurbished.

It is a splendid transformation of what was a dull walkway and gives the airport much more accommodation as passenger levels continue to increase. Travellers need not seat themselves in what is a much transformed lounge between security and boarding but can now wait very comfortably near their gate, take sustenance or just watch the ‘planes through the large glass windows.

Business Travel News took a look at the new facility last week, London City’s PR Manager Andrew Scott explaining: “The airport’s 30th anniversary year will crescendo towards celebrations of the official milestone in the autumn and the approaching completion of the transformed western pier of departures is a major milestone. Also this year we will also see the start of the £344m City Airport Development Programme, comprising seven new aircraft stands, a parallel taxiway and an extended passenger terminal, with completion expected by 2025.”
