Sheraton hotel in bankruptcy

In changes to the Brussels hospitality scene, Marriott International has opened its second Courtyard property just as Belgium’s largest hotel, the Sheraton Brussels, has been forced to close due to the bankruptcy of its operating company.

Part of the Eurpean Quarter's Marriott corner, the Courtyard Brussels EU offers 180 rooms, free wi-fi, a Scandinavian restaurant, three meeting rooms, fitness and business centres and a 24 hour shop.

The hotel also features the brand’s Go Board concept, with touchscreen technology allowing guests to view the latest airport information and research tourist attractions.

Courtyard Brussels EU joins the existing Courtyard Brussels on Avenue des Olympiades, and is the fifth Marriott property in the Belgian capital. The group also operates a Marriott hotel in Ghent.

At the Sheraton, a statement on the hotel’s Facebook page said following the bankruptcy of SBH SPRL, the operator of the Sheraton Brussels Hotel, the property had been forced to close.

The statement added: “The forced closure of the hotel is due to the financial situation of the operating company and is not related to the Sheraton brand.”

Sheraton had managed the property since it opened in 1973.
