Growth ahead for easyHotel

Leeds is poised to join the easyHotel family next year after the company, set up in 2004 by easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, announced plans for a 94-room property in the city centre.

EasyHotel is spending an estimated £5m on buying and converting an existing building on a 250-year lease. It has also acquired land in Barcelona Spain for its first hotel in Spain.

CEO Guy Parsons said: "We are delighted to announce this latest development project in line with our development strategy announced in September in Leeds, one of the Northern Powerhouse cities.

“It is already a major regional employment hub which will be further supplemented by the significant planned developments for the city, including the redevelopment of the former Tetley Brewery, Leeds Dock shopping area and HS2.”

EasyHotel has three of its own hotels with 390 rooms and another 19 franchised properties under the brand in the UK and Europe, offering a total of more than 1,600 rooms.

The group also has 11 properties in the development pipeline including five planned UK hotels in Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Ipswich and Sheffield, as well as in Dubai, Germany, Lisbon and Turkey.
