Lufthansa took delivery of its first A350-900 last month as the aircraft was transferred to the Munich Hub in preparation for its first regular commercial flight from Munich to Delhi on 10 February.
Described by the airline as “the most modern long-haul aircraft worldwide”, it features a newly-designed self-service area in Business Class, a new Premium Economy product, larger screens and improved broadband internet services.
Starting next month, Lufthansa will station its first 10 A350-900s at Munich, with Boston joining Delhi among initial destinations. The aircraft seats 293 passengers, with 48 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy and 224 in regular Economy Class.
The arrival of the first aircraft at Munich was heralded with a special ceremony with the airport fire brigade providing water arches and a Lufthansa “Christmas angel” on board to present a €10,000 cheque to a Munich orphanage on behalf of Lufthansa employees.
Capt Martin Hoell, who commanded the delivery flight from Airbus headquarters at Toulouse, said: “The A350-900 is the most modern plane with the most up-to-date technical features a commercial pilot can fly.”
