Lufthansa arrival

The first of 10 new Airbus A350-900s on order by Lufthansa has arrived.  The fleet will be based at the Munich hub, with the first commercial flight scheduled for 10 February to Delhi. Boston will be another earlier destination.

Between those two dates, Lufthansa Technik in Munich will install a cabin interior, which will include the airline’s new Premium Economy as well as other features before the aircraft is presented to the public at the beginning of February.

Munich Hub CEO Thomas Winkelmann said the new features included a newly-designed self-service area in Business Class, new seats with ergonomically-designed cushions in Economy, larger screens throughout and improved broadband internet services.

Lufthansa’s new flagship aircraft will be configured with 293 seats, 48 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy and 224 in Economy.

The airline is hailing the Dash-900 as the most modern and environmentally-friendly long-haul aircraft worldwide, using 25% less kerosene and producing 25% fewer emissions. The noise “footprint” is said to be up to 50% lower than that of comparable aircraft types.
