A ninth North American destination is being added by the Icelandic carrier Wow air to its fast growing line-up of transatlantic services with flights to the important Pennsylvania business city of Pittsburgh from 16 June.
The year-round service will depart on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from Gatwick and Edinburgh and will fly via Reykjavik.
The airline’s expansion to Pittsburgh follows the successful launch of transatlantic services to Montreal, Washington DC, Toronto, Boston, New York, Miami Los Angeles and San Francisco (BTN 4 November).
Wow’s founder and CEO, Skúli Mogensen, said: “Making exciting new destinations accessible for travellers across the world at unbeatable prices is an integral part of our ethos.
“Pittsburgh is certainly a destination on the rise and one that will appeal to a wide range of UK travellers looking to discover somewhere different, so we're thrilled to add the destination to our route list.
“The past year has truly solidified our presence in the US, with a number of new routes launched and we look forward to continuing this fast rate of expansion.”
The flights between Reykjavik and Pittsburgh will be by Airbus A321s with a single-class configuration and a flight time of 6hr 30min. Total journey time from Gatwick including stopover is about 11hr.
