Police have detained a man in connection with an incident that led to the evacuation of London City Airport. (See BTN 24 October)
The 25-year-old was arrested “on suspicion of using a noxious substance to cause serious damage under section 113 of the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001,” police said in a statement.
The man was later released on bail.
London’s Metropolitan Police said the incident was not being treated as a terrorist-related matter.
About 500 people were evacuated from the terminal building, with some treated by ambulance crews for breathing difficulties.
A police statement later said “a subsequent search of the airport led to the discovery of what is believed to be a CS gas or spray”.
