AirBaltic, Icelandair join A4E

Two new carriers, airBaltic, which operates from bases in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia and is headquartered in Riga, and Reykjavik-based Icelandair, have joined the Airlines for Europe (A4E) pressure group.

The signings follow a busy summer for A4E, which has been campaigning on minimising the impact of air traffic control (ATC) strikes, removing unreasonable taxes and lowering the cost of the EU’s airports.

The group and its member airlines have also been involved supporting the ICAO process on a global scheme to address carbon emissions from international aviation.

Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic, said: “Representing the Eastern European hemisphere, we will deliver new, important insights into smaller but fast-growing markets within the EU, to the benefit of all European passengers.”

Icelandair CEO Birkir Holm Gudnason added: “We are looking forward to working jointly with A4E on several common matters affecting our industry´s operating environment.

“We should align our efforts on behalf of our customers to minimise operational costs, such as lowering the cost of the EU´s airports. A4E’s key policy issues are also affecting our daily operation and therefore we need to form a strong voice in Europe.”
