The first of 10 B787-9 Dreamliners due to join the Aeromexico fleet has been unveiled at the carrier’s complex at Mexico City International Airport. The aircraft has been named Quetzalcoatl, after the Aztec god of wind and learning.
London, Amsterdam, Madrid, New York, Paris, Santiago, Shanghai and Tokyo are among the first destinations scheduled to be served by the Dreamliner over the next few weeks.
Aeromexico announced the order, which represents the largest investment in the history of Mexican aviation, in July 2012. The airline took delivery of its first B787-8 Dreamliner three years ago, and currently has nine in its fleet.
The Dash-9 has been given a new configuration, with 274 seats in two cabins, with the Clase Premier business section featuring 36 flat-bed seats in a 1+2+1 layout and 18in individual touch-screens, 2in larger than those on the Dash-8.
Inflight entertainment includes two live television channels, films, boxsets and music albums, while Clase Premier also offers a bar and meals as part of a continuous refreshment service. Like other aircraft in the Aeromexico fleet, the Dash-9 model also features inflight wi-fi.
