SAS boost for Dublin

More capacity between Dublin and Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm is being provided by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) next year with extra flights on all three services. Oslo will gain 16% more seats and the other two destinations 9% each.

The carrier is a long-standing customer of Dublin Airport. It began flying there in April 1966 and says it has carried more than 4.5m passengers on the three routes from the Irish capital since then.

Airport managing director Vincent Harrison was among those to welcome the SAS announcement last weekend.

“SAS is one of our oldest European customers and its decision to expand capacity significantly on all three of its existing routes from Dublin is good news for business and leisure travellers,” he said.

The airline is also expanding in other directions – last week’s announcement followed a statement from SAS a few days earlier saying it intends to launch a twice-weekly service to Stockholm from Shannon next August that will run until the following October.

Meanwhile, the airline is celebrating the arrival of the first of 30 new Airbus A320neo aircraft, which it says will offer a 15 % reduction in fuel consumption. The aircraft will be operating from Wednesday (26 October).
