Headed as a Qatar Airways and British Airways joint initiative, it was IAG’s CEO Willie Walsh who commented for the Heathrow-based carrier when it announced a joint business agreement last week. It will allow both carriers’ designators to be shown on flight codes and also share revenue. As chief executive of the airline's owner, Willie Walsh said in a statement that the agreement will give customers access “to more destinations through Qatar Airways' extensive network. It will also allow us to provide easier journeys with better aligned schedules”.
Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker noted that the partnership provides “an enhanced operation for our passengers with increased daily flights between London and Doha, greater choice of flight schedules, wider range of fares and improved member benefits”. He also highlighted that “British Airways is an airline steeped in history and prestige and we are proud to be partnering with them to offer our passengers an even greater choice of global destinations”.
The agreement is effective from 30 October.
Qatar Airways owns a 20% stake in British Airways’ parent IAG.
