The gold-nosed British Airways aircraft, named “VictoRIOus”, that brought Team GB home from Rio returns from its latest mission tomorrow (20 September) – bringing back to the UK the equally-successful ParalympicsGB squad from the Paralympic Games.
The aircraft was given a makeover for the prestigious journey, including a nose polish, full body clean and a new hashtag emblazoned on its livery, this time reading #BAckSupercharged.
Flight BA2016 is due to leave Rio today (19 September) and arrive at Heathrow Terminal 5 at 09:00 tomorrow, to an invite-only media reception. Fans can follow the aircraft’s movements on https://www.flightradar24.com
On the 11hr 15min journey from Rio, the B747 will carry 585 items of kit and equipment, including archery tackle, racing chairs, tennis chairs, throwing frames, running blades, fencing foils, paddle tubes, solo bikes and tandem bikes. The heaviest item is a hand-bike weighing 32kg.
BA chairman and CEO Alex Cruz said: “It’s a privilege once again to be the official airline supporter to ParalympicsGB. Like the rest of the nation, we’re immensely proud of their success. We are all working hard across the business to deliver another successful return for our heroes.”
