More investment at Southampton

Changes to the pick-up and drop-off facilities have been introduced at Southampton Airport as part of a full review of facilities following completion last year of the five-year £20m-plus redevelopment.

The former free pick-up and drop-off area has moved to the long-stay car park and will offer 30min of free parking. Passengers can then transfer to the main terminal by shuttle bus which runs every 10-12min and takes about 3-5min.

Passengers wishing to be dropped closer to the main terminal can choose the priority pick-up and drop-off area in the short-stay car park, which carries a £1 fee for 10min.

Head of operations Neil Garwood said: “With many new airlines and new routes being announced over the past year, passenger numbers are expected to increase, which comes with a responsibility to improve facilities to maintain our current high standards.”

Money raised from parking changes is being reinvested to support future work at the airport as it looks ahead to reaching the 2m passengers-a-year milestone.

Between 2010 and 2015, the airport spent more than £20m on its redevelopment and in the past year alone has invested significant amounts in the security, arrivals and departure areas as well as new shuttle buses.
