Luxembourg joins flybe line-up

Flybe arrived in the important business centre of Luxembourg for the first time on Thursday as it launched its new service from Manchester. The airline is planning a twice-daily operation on weekdays, with a daily flight at weekends.

Described by chief revenue officer Vincent Hodder as “a first for flybe”, the new service is the only direct link to Luxembourg from outside London. The airline plans to follow-up with a Birmingham service next month. It is using a mix of the Bombardier Q400 and Embraer ERJ175 on the Manchester route.

Although one of the smallest countries in Europe, Luxembourg is one of its most vibrant business centres. It boasts a large investment-fund hub and private-banking sector and more recently has added a range of thriving internet start-ups.

It is currently served from Heathrow by British Airways, from Gatwick by EasyJet, from London City Airport by Luxair, and from Stansted by Ryanair.

Manchester has also featured in another new launch by flybe, which began operating to Lyon with a year-round daily schedule from there on 1 August. The airline is also adding Chambery as a new destination to its Manchester 2016-17 winter schedule.
