Delta in all-suite initiative

Upping the stakes in the battle for premium passengers, and claiming a world first in the process, Delta Air Lines is introducing an all-suite Business Class next year.

The Delta One suite will debut on the airline’s first Airbus A350, due to enter service next autumn. Each aircraft will feature 32 suites.

Each suite offers a private space accessed by a sliding door, specially-designed personal stowage areas, an advanced in-flight entertainment system and what Delta calls “a comfortable, residential feel”.

In addition to full flat-bed seats with direct-aisle access, which the airline introduced eight years ago, each suite features a full-height door, sliding privacy dividers between centre suites and adjustable ambient lighting.

Other features include memory foam-enhanced cushions, an 18in high resolution in-flight entertainment monitor, the largest among US carriers, and a universal power outlet and high-powered USB port at every seat.

Delta will be the first US airline to take delivery of the A350, which will serve mainly routes between the US and Asia. The Delta One suite will roll out progressively on the company’s Boeing 777 fleet following the A350 debut.
