Now Malaysia goes Premium

A Premium Economy class is on the way for Malaysia Airlines’ A380s and yet-to-be delivered A350s, the airlines’ new CEO, Peter Bellew, has announced.

One of the A380s has already been retrofitted but according to the Edge Financial Daily the carrier will not be selling the seats until four more of the super-jumbos have been equipped.

Bellew said he expected the retrofit of all six A380s to be completed by next March, while the six A350s, which Malaysia is leasing and expects to take delivery of between October 2017 and April 2018, will also come with Premium Economy class.

The fuel-efficient A350 is seen as a replacement for the A380 on the Kuala Lumpur – London route, and will also serve two more destinations that the airline is said to be currently finalising.

Bellew said the airline, which has cut capacity by more than 30% since last year and trimmed unprofitable routes as part of a recovery programme, expects to resume growth from next year.

The carrier has retired the B777-200ER fleet, while deliveries of its recently-announced new B737 MAX fleet are scheduled begin in 2019, with a mix of the MAX 8 and stretched MAX 9 variant.
