With an estimated 50% of travellers heading abroad without the right health protection, Boots UK has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the fact people need to protect more than just their skin from the sun when they visit far-flung destinations.
The company has set up a travel vaccinations and health advice service which offers a free personalised risk assessment to help travellers to understand which vaccinations may be needed and why.
Boots pharmacies also offer a malaria prevention service with pharmacists on hand to provide access to prescription-only anti-malarials and advice, including tips on how to avoid being bitten and recommended insect repellents.
The company recommends intending travellers should speak to one of its pharmacists or visit the Quickcheck tool on the travel health website (see below).
Boots is also linking the “travel healthy” campaign to a reminder that insurance is another often-overlooked necessity.
It is offering policies with extra benefits such as no age limits for single trips, age banding and coverage for a wide range of medical conditions.
Boots is often visited at airports to purchase that forgotten first aid or toiletry item. It is not usually the first shop that comes to mind, but is excellent for buying good value and quality sandwiches.
