Members of Parliament overwhelmingly support a third runway at Heathrow to expand aviation capacity in the south east, according to the latest poll by YouGov.In the first post-Brexit poll on the matter, 76%of MPs think an expanded Heathrow is an important factor in Britain’s future ability to stay connected to the world in the wake of the referendum result, indicating cross-party support.
Peter Simpson, CEO of bmi regional/Loganair Airline Investment Group Ltd, has quickly backed up the announcement with a statement which could be construed as support for the use of RAF Northolt as an interim measure for the regions.
“Given the benefit to the entire UK of increased air capacity and the need to re-establish regional links to hub-networks, the decision on London Airport expansion must be expedited. Improved UK regional connectivity must be a vital part of any Heathrow expansion plan," he said.
"The UK government states that it is committed to stimulating economic growth outside London; delivering efficient world-wide hub accessibility from UK regions would align with this stated goal.
"Indeed, we would welcome a discussion on how this could be delivered earlier than increased capacity through a third Heathrow runway would currently allow – we're not sure why the UK government has to wait any longer."

I wonder if MPs are fully conversant with the issue surrounding runway length? See http://www.iea.org.uk/blog/the-third-runway-urgent-not-vital
