Heathrow is preparing to welcome Finnair’s flagship Airbus A350XWB more often from 5 October after the airline said it was replacing the current A320 on the Helsinki route.
The change will apply on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays on the 2hr 55min flights AY832 between London and Helsinki and AY831 between Helsinki and London.
Finnair UK/Ireland and Benelux sales director Andrew Fish said: “Finnair is proud it will be the only airline currently operating the ultra-modern Airbus A350XWB to Heathrow.
“The change from the smaller short-haul-configured A320 allows us to meet the increased demand for capacity on this route and flights will be timed to offer a short connection via Helsinki on to Finnair’s long-haul A350XWB services to Asia.”
The XWB will have a 297-seat configuration with 46 seats in Business Class in a 1+2+1 layout for direct aisle access. The Zodiac Cirrus III seats convert to fully-flat beds, and there is a 16in touch-screen inflight entertainment system.
Economy Class features Zodiac Z300 slim-line seats with 31in pitch in a 3+3+3 layout. At the front of the cabin are 43 Economy Comfort seats, which come with 4in of extra legroom as well as noise-cancelling headphones and an amenity kit.
