Business emphasis at Quito

The Ecuadorian capital, Quito, is joining the new-found impetus by business destinations in South America with the construction of the new Metropolitan Convention Centre and multiple 5-star hotels.

Officials say the convention complex once completed “will catapult Quito as a top international meetings and conventions destination in the region”.

The sprawling site is in Bicentennial Park, a green space that used to serve as Quito's airport, and will include event venues, hotels, restaurants, shops and entertainment spaces.

On the hotel front, the Windham Grand Condor in the Aeropuerto Internacional Mariscal Sucre in Tabalela, in March became the first of the new properties to open its doors.

The San Patricio Hilton, between the airport and Cumbaya, is scheduled to open between  late 2017 and early 2018, along with the Eurobuilding Express Hotel, the Royal Green Hotel and a new Holiday Inn.

Accor is in the process of constructing the Ibis Hotel on Diego de Almagro and Bello Horizonte streets, and will offer more than 130 rooms.

Casa Gangotena, a boutique hotel in the Quito Historic Centre, has been included among the 25 best hotels in the world according to TripAdvisor's Traveller's Choice Award for the third consecutive year.
