Members past and present of the Foreign Airlines Association gathered at Lord’s Cricket Ground last week to celebrate the group’s 70th anniversary.
The FAA is the oldest association of its kind, formed at a time of food rationing when Heathrow was a muddy field with temporary buildings and wet tents. The group was immediately popular according to one cynic because the monthly lunches helped to eke out frugal rations.
Today the FAA offers members the opportunity to meet like-minded airline peers in a friendly environment to promote their companies, discuss topics of mutual interest and share expertise and best practice. Guest speakers, usually leading industry figures, present on a range of topics at the regular events.
Guests at the anniversary gathering were welcomed by chairman Colin Stewart (Air Europa) and included past chairmen and women Sandra Bloodworth (2008-09); Cathy Matos (2006-07); Chris Gilbert (2001-02); Barry Prior (1998-99); Jan Smit (1983-84); and John Varley (1996-97).
