Ethiopian Airlines takes delivery tomorrow (28 June) of an A350XWB, the first Airbus aircraft in its fleet and the first of its kind in Africa.
The carrier has ordered 14 of the long-range wide-body twinjet with a typical configuration of 30 seats in Cloud Nine (Business Class) and 318 in Economy.
Ethiopian says it is also planning to make inflight wi-fi available on the aircraft but doesn’t yet know when.
CEO Tewolde Gebremariam said: “We are very pleased that Ethiopian has taken the leadership role in Africa and has become among the few leading airlines in the world to invest in this latest-technology and efficient flying machine.”
He said operating the youngest fleet in the industry with modern and comfortable customer features was one of the four pillars of the airline’s Vision 2025 plan and introduction of the A350 was one component of that strategy.
Gebremariam also announced the airline was planning to order up to 11 more A350XWBs, though there was no specific time frame for that.
