KLM goes orange

Orange has become the new symbol for KLM, which has given one of its aircraft a special paint job as a way of promoting the Netherlands overseas at various events including the 2016 Olympics.

The B777-300ER has had the front part of its fuselage painted in the colour associated with Holland with the livery fading into KLM’s normal blue – another component of the national flag – further down the aircraft.

The airline asked its social media followers about the colour plan, conceived originally as a way of marking the Netherlands’ King’s Day festival, and received 30,000 ‘likes’ and 2,500 positive responses.

More than 330 litres of paint were used, sprayed on by a team of 35 people over four days.

The aircraft is being used on regular flights across the KLM network, but will also be deployed at “events that offer opportunities to promote the Netherlands”.

It will appear on services between Amsterdam and Rio during the Olympics and will operate a special “Medal Flight” bringing home Dutch medal winners from the games on 22 August.

The B777-300ER features KLM’s latest Economy and Business Class seats as well as a revamped in-flight entertainment system.
